毎回、素敵な俳句を作っているIzumiさんがこのたび、５月２１日付けの朝日新聞と６月号の俳句マガジンに掲載されました。
掲載されたのは日本語ですが、英語にも挑戦してくれました。

壺俳句会
いかがですか？
中村泉さんが初挑戦した英語の俳句です。
泉さんは俳句の雑誌の校正を手がけるなど日本語における俳句にとても精通した方です。今回の俳句は日本語から英語に訳したものだそうです。
どちらを詠んでも芸術に富んでいて、良くその情景が短い文章からでも思い浮かびます。
ウィルにとっては始めて聞いた俳句で英語しか理解できない彼にとって、この英語バージョンはかなり衝撃的だったようです。
俳句にはみなさんもご存知のとおり約束がありますが、英語にも俳句や川柳に似た言葉あそびがあります。
芸術性からいうとかなり貧粗なもので、本当にただの、ジョークですが、おもしろいものもありますのでここでいくつか有名なものを紹介します。
英語ではLimerick(リムリック）といいます。
この名前はアイルランドにある町の名前でもあり、これが語源といわれています。
There once was a boy named Tim
His dad didn't teach him to swim
He fell off a dock
And sank like a rock
And that was the end of him
There once was a girl named Jill
Who was very scared of drill
She brushed every day
So her dendist would say
Your teeth are perfect- no bill
There was an old man from Peru
Who dreamed he was eating his shoe
He woke in the night
With a terrible fright
And found out that it was quite true
どうでしょう？この三つを比べてわかると思うのですが、文の最後を同じサウンドで終わらせるのです。約束としてはAABBAでTim swim dock rock him ということです。
これをライムといいます。
最近は英語でも日本語でHIPHOPやラップによく取り入れていますよね。
このリムリックの場合、はじまりは大体 there was ～ と始まるようです。
